Israel unveiled its first solar bid for the solar project with a target of 1.6 GW

According to the Globe reported that the Israeli government has approved a new plan to increase the capacity of 1.6 GW of solar power in three years, mainly rooftop solar.

The policy, launched by Yuval Steinitz, the minister of energy and infrastructure is aimed at boosting Israel’s electricity generation to meet the country’s renewable energy targets. Rooftop solar quotas will be divided into two categories: small residential photovoltaic facilities and large roofed commercial projects. The capacity of large roofing projects will be tendered by the public utilities authority. It will be the first such auction in Israel.

Small roof PV installation projects do not invite public bidding. They will get a fixed price for the grid.

The public utilities agency says a combination of small and large rooftop power plants and ground installation facilities would be fixed for 20 to 25 years.

Israel has already produced a total of 10% of its electricity from renewable energy sources by 2020. But currently only 3% electricity of renewable energy is generated. At present, the project capacity under construction is 700 MW.
